"Ridgefield Veterans Still Serving America"
MEMORIAL DAY PARADE Post 78 has been organizing and running our Memorial Day Parade starting back in the 1920’s. This is one of the biggest events in Ridgefield and is attended by thousands. The parade features marching bands, military fly-over, local organizations and clubs, ending with a closing ceremony honoring the men and women who died in defense of our freedom.
MILITARY BAND CONCERTS Military bands from all branches of the Armed Forces have entertained and inspired patriotism of Ridgefield residents for the past 50 years. Post 78 is proud to continue arranging bands to make Ridgefield a stop on their tours.

MILITARY HONORS FUNERALS There is no greater privilege then to provide Military Honors to a deceased brother or sister in arms. Post 78’s firing squad has performed this honorable duty since 2014 throughout many cities and towns in Southwestern Connecticut.
VETERANS DAY Each year Post 78 conducts a Veterans Day ceremony at the Lounsbury House/Veterans Garden located at 316 Main Street. The ceremony is always on Veterans Day, November 11th at 11am. It features patriotic music and short speeches.
LEGION BASEBALL Post 78 sponsors two American Legion Baseball teams. Legion Baseball is a highly competitive travel baseball program. College coaches look at Legion players to recruit to their programs. Our senior team players are ages 19 years old and under (19U) and a junior team ages 17 and under (17U). Both teams were comprised of very talented and dedicated ball players. Legion baseball season is compact and short with 27 games to be played in 35 days.
GIRLS STATE PROGRAMS American Legion’s Auxiliary Girls State program is one of the most respected and coveted experiential learning programs presented in the United States. The program epitomizes the ALA’s mission to honor those who have brought us our freedom through our commitment to develop young women as future leaders grounded in patriotism and Americanism. Young women become knowledgeable of the democratic process and how our republic form of government works at the state and national levels.
